An electrical fire Tuesday at the Balmoral Assisted Living Facility had everyone scurrying to rescue and then relocate residents.
At 11:39 a.m. Tuesday Palm Harbor Fire Rescue firefighters and paramedics responded to a report of a structure fire at the assisted living facility at 2960 Tampa Road, said Liz Monforti, a spokeswoman for the fire department.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the roof of the building and ALF staff evacuating patients.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke in the ALF’s memory care unit and called in a second alarm. The blaze occurred in one unoccupied room. The fire sprinkler system activated and extinguished the fire before units arrived, Montforti said.
Twenty-nine residents were relocated to other rooms in the facility. About 12 rooms remain unoccupied Tuesday afternoon because of smoke and water damage.
Fire investigators found the fire occurred in an electrical outlet
